Octric Semiconductor is a new name in the compound semiconductor foundry space. Its devices are used in mission‑critical defence and commercial applications.

Located in Newton Aycliffe, UK,  we occupy a 10,000 m² purpose‑built Class 100 manufacturing facility fully equipped to produce state‑of‑the‑art compound semiconductor products.

Purpose of Role

Own, drive, and strive for the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental Performance. Ensure self and teams remain focused on delivery of the department mission statement:

"Safe, effective, efficient and seamless supply of facilities services with target zero disruption to the site production schedule."

Form an integral part in the successful operation of the department by planning, scheduling and supervising the key functions and activities performed by the maintenance and process operations technicians. Proactively deliver the role promoting a strong desire to "Operate in the spirit of continuous improvement".

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental standards and procedures are adhered to, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements/JSAs, and Environmental Sampling and Monitoring.
  • Day-to-day leadership and supervision of all Facilities Maintenance and Operations Technicians.
  • Shift and daily planning to ensure production and maintenance shift targets are achieved.
  • Maximise contributions from available resources in the delivery of the maintenance and operations two-weekly schedules.
  • Ensure adequate resource allocation including holidays and shift cover control.
  • Ensure daily meetings and shift handovers are comprehensive, accurate, and clearly highlight key issues requiring attention, including those requiring input from the Health, Safety and Environmental Team.
  • Monitor, forecast and control costs, ensuring they remain within requisitioned and purchase order values.
  • Engage with process operators and HSE Team to ensure effectiveness of environmental sampling and record keeping.
  • Manage visiting contractors and provide an effective interface between the facilities team.
  • Organise employee training and development through the appraisals process.

Main Tasks

  • Supervise and lead the daily and shift activities of the maintenance and operation technicians.
  • Ensure all operational and maintenance checklists and schedules are delivered on time.
  • Communicate daily and weekly team goals and targets to operators and maintenance technicians.
  • Measure, monitor, and improve performance of designated teams using metrics and KPIs.
  • Ensure that personnel receive appropriate training in line with training schedules and programmes.
  • Provide timely and accurate supply of information relating to relevant personnel within the facilities team.
  • Analyse Maximo backlog information and implement appropriate remedial action plans.
  • Review operator work and checklists for adherence, in particular those associated with Legionella, Health, Safety and Environmental Monitoring.
  • Promote quality awareness and encourage ideas for improvement.
  • Maintain a consistent and fair approach to all designated teams and personnel.
  • Promote best-in-class working practices and formalised procedures.
  • Respond to business needs, scheduling work and maintenance in order to meet desired output.

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in supervisory and leadership roles for multidisciplined maintenance and operator teams.
  • Proven experience working in a Chemical Plant environment delivering maintenance and process plant operational activities.
  • Understanding of the importance of ISO14001/45001, engaging with EHS Team on KPI delivery.

Key Skills

  • Ability to coordinate maintenance and process operations teams.
  • Maintenance trade background — Electrical or Mechanical.
  • Capable of reviewing and understanding Chemical Process Flow and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Knowledge of Legionella hazards and control measures.
  • Knowledge of MCERTS and Environmental Monitoring Systems and Processes.
  • Committed individual with appreciation of business needs.
  • Ability to identify and focus on priority issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work alongside EHS subject matter experts.
  • Adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Highly proficient in delegation.
  • Ability to provide constructive instructions to designated teams.

Education & Qualifications

  • Recognised supervisory/management qualification or appropriate supervisory experience.
